I first met Dre two years ago. He used to live on the streets, frequently sleeping in the Long Beach airport.
I met him in LA in 2023 during my Christmas tour. He had fled his problems on the East Coast, but nothing went according to plan.
He was on the edge. Truly ready to give up on life.
And this movement — YOUR movement — helped save him.
That was then. This is now.
He went from sleeping in the Long Beach airport … to flying out of that very same
airport to come home.
Home to DC.
Home to face his problems.
Home to make peace.
Home to forgive — and seek forgiveness.
We reconnected yesterday, and the light in his eyes was unmistakable.
We talked about his journey since that day in LA. And yes, we went to IHOP again, just like we did the first time.
See the tears on his cheeks and the keys in his hand?
Keys to his very own apartment.
His home.
To say I’m proud of Dre doesn’t go nearly far enough.
He’s a hero of mine. And hopefully, of yours.
Dre asked me to tell everyone involved in this movement how thankful he is for your kindness and generosity.
But most of all — for believing in him when he no longer believed in himself.
We love you, Dre.
The best is not behind you.
It’s just beginning.
