When I met Michelle, her husband Gilbert, and their dog, Chewy, I felt strongly prompted to sit and listen. I’m so glad I did.
I’ve learned it’s best to start with no agenda. No script. Just a conversation.
I handed her a few Kindness Cards for meals and explained the movement. That part was simple.
What isn’t simple is what came next.
She revealed, slowly, painfully, that they lost a child.
And everything else — the traffic, the noise, the passersby, even the passing minutes — disappeared.
Yes, hunger is real.
But grief like that? It’s something else entirely.
These aren’t just people trying to find their next meal.
They’re carrying something unimaginable — without a home, without stability, without a place to set it down.
We didn’t solve anything together. But for a little while, because of you and the kindness of this movement, this small family wasn't invisible.
And maybe that matters more than we think.
Prayers for Michelle, Gilbert, and Chewy. Because those matter too.
