Do you smile through your trials? I met Y0usif from Sudan at a bus stop, and his smile was so contagious I couldn’t stop smiling back.
When he told me about his tough upbringing? He smiled.
When he told me about his car crash back home that killed four friends and family members? He smiled.
When he told me the gruesome story of his arm being amputated by amateurs after that crash? He smiled.
And when he showed me the poorly healed and horrific scars? You get the idea.
It’s not that he finds humor in the horrors of his life; he simply chooses to smile through them.
When we see tragedy and trials, he sees hope. When we see today, he sees tomorrow.
And he does it all with a smile.
He was so thankful to choose a few Kindness Cards to places along his bus route. And, as I often do, I handed him one more than I planned.
And yes, he smiled.
